The Solent Freeport represents a transformative opportunity for the area. With projections to generate 15,000 direct jobs and an additional 15,000 in associate sectors, it carries an emphasis on advanced manufacturing, R&D port logistics, and clean technologies. It also supports local initiatives to achieve zero-emissions status and to advance hydrogen production. Please note: The wider Solent Maritime Sector is the subject of a separate LSIP deep dive study.The Solent Freeport was designated in 2022 as one of England’s key economic drivers. Strategically located on the south coast, the Solent Freeport comprises three tax sites: Southampton Water, Navigator Quarter, and Dunsbury Park. It also encompasses two customs sites at Portsmouth International Port and at the Solent Gateway, which is also part of the Southampton Water Tax site.
This enables the Solent Freeport to bolster the UK’s trading position and develop new trading relationships.
