Position Title: Director of Commercial Operations

Schedule: FT Monday – Friday

Location: Hybrid Minimum 3 days in Fareham office with regular visits to Basingstoke office

Salary: £45,000 pa

About Us

The purpose of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce is to help its members grow, connect, and enable their voice to be heard.

The Chamber is a not-for-profit organisation delivering support to the business community across all sizes and sectors, building partnerships and collaborations to deliver impact. The Chamber has recently undergone a refresh of its offering and operational support to the business community. This role will be central to ensuring delivery of this new experience as expressed in the vison for the PEER programme and concept.

Job Summary

Hampshire Chamber of Commerce has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director of Commercial Operations. Joining us at a period of growth, you will organise and oversee the operations and implementation of the strategy of the Chamber of Commerce with a strong focus on quality and with a proven commercial instinct.

You will ensure that our member focused business is well-coordinated and productive by optimising its margins, managing its procedures, shaping its resources, and coaching its people. The area of responsibility for this role is wide and requires good knowledge of company activities and processes.

The Director of Commercial Operations is a senior management position reporting directly to the Executive Chair/CEO and is a member of the Chamber Board.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the Executive Chair/CEO to make decisions for shaping divisional activities in the context of agreed strategic goals.
  • Working with the Chamber teams to place membership growth and retention at the forefront of the business objectives.
  • Together with managers ensure the Chamber’s product and service experiences are developed to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Provide guidance to the management team in the context of supporting their departmental goals and providing constructive feedback.
  • Oversee commercial and managerial aspects of projects to ensure they are completed on time and to budget.
  • Nurture, develop and maintain relationships with key partners, members, and clients through ensuring they are updated on available opportunities and experiences.
  • Monitor the day-to-day performance of business activities to ensure smooth delivery progress.
  • Collaborate with the appointed accountant and auditors to maintain effective business performance reporting.
  • Ensure successful annual British Chambers of Commerce (‘BCC’) accreditation of the Chamber, its performance, and reporting.
  • Ensure office systems and resources are contracted to optimise business efficiency.
  • Regularly evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organisational objectives and apply such improvements as needed.
  • Manage procurement processes and coordinate resources allocation.
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability.
  • Revise and/or formulate organisational policies and promote their implementation.
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors.
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analysing, and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations.

You are efficient in planning distinct kinds of operational and commercial activities and have an enquiring and creative mind to discover the most effective and efficient ways to run the business operations of the Chamber. The goal is to safeguard and augment the efficiency of the Chamber’s services to facilitate and accelerate its development and long-term success whilst ensuring that the members’ experience is valued.

You will also be an excellent communicator, dealing with both performance and resourcing matters to drive the targets of all the departments to support our membership.
