The government has announced new unitary councils for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight that will provide all services to the people in their areas as part of the biggest shake up to local government.
Responding to the biggest shake-up of local government in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight for more than 50 years, Hampshire Chamber’s Chief Executive and Executive Chair Ross McNally said:
“We stand ready to work with all our local government partners to ensure the transition to the new unitary councils in our region truly works for business. We want to see the new arrangements prioritise economic growth and job creation while helping employers bridge the workplace skills gaps they face. For that to happen, government and business must work in partnership. We will continue to represent the views of our members to policymakers and lobby for the needs and wishes of business to be taken into account. We engage with politicians at all levels, from national figures to grassroots councillors. That will not change. We will continue to articulate the voice of business in the corridors of power. We wish all those involved in putting the new arrangements in place the very best of fortune as they work towards implementation from April 2028 and we aim to be a helpful partner in the process.”
