Basingstoke Draft Core Strategy - Consultation Announced

12 Jan 12

The draft Pre-submission Basingstoke Core Strategy has now been prepared and, following the Council's Planning and Infrastructure Overview and Scrutiny Committee Meetings this week and special Cabinet meeting on the 23 January 2012, should be ready for public consultation starting 10 February (this date maybe be brought forward to 6 February).

The Core Strategy is the local development framework for the Borough up to and including 2026, replacing the Local Pan, but incorporating wider themes and issues.

Hampshire Chamber of Commerce will be preparing an overarching response and members are therefore encouraged to feedback before the deadline of 23 March. The Chamber's Basingstoke Area Committee will be receiving a presentation on the Core Strategy on 13 March and the Chamber's response will be put together with the Area Committee's lead.

Jimmy Chestnutt, Chief Executive for Hampshire Chamber of Commerce said, "This is a great opportunity for businesses to really make their voice heard and respond on all the key themes, sites and issues. In light of the positive work being instigated by the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership and the recent announcements regarding Basing View Development, the Core Strategy (LDF) contains the strategic drivers that should aid delivery. Of course, what will be interesting will be the effect of the emerging National Planning Policy Framework in April and whether this may cause further revisions."
