Southampton's cruise business could receive a devastating blow!

Southampton is sleepwalking into a bleak future, where we see our taxes paying to take our business and our jobs.

A decision by the Shipping Minister, Mike Penning, could result in the loss of a number of cruise ships coming into Southampton. How?

By using the money you've paid in taxes to be used to allow cruise ships to start and end their cruise from Liverpool City Cruise Terminal.

If this is left to happen, public money (our money) will be used to compete for business against us!

If you think there will be no impact here then imagine what the regional economy will look like without just some of the £2m every ship visit pours into the city’s coffers or a slice of the £1.2 billion it’s estimated to bring in to the Solent annually.

How many of the 3,500 directly employed jobs will go north with each vessel?

What will happen to the army of small businesses reliant on the cruise trade?

You probably know some of them – small suppliers, dockworkers, restaurateurs, B&B owners and taxi drivers. The list is long and is spread right across the region.

Act now to prevent even one ship being lost to unfair public subsidy.

Let’s not allow private sector investment in the Solent to be sunk by public money.
