HAN talks business at the Badi Mirchi

The Hampshire Asian Network (HAN) autumn networking event, sponsored by RBS The Royal Bank of Scotland, held at Badi Mirchi Restaurant Eastleigh on 9 November, proved to be an excellent curtain raiser to launching HAN across Hampshire-wide in 2012. 42 businesses from sectors including finance, retail, media, cultural arts and leisure enjoyed a wonderful evening of business discussion and Asian cuisine in a relaxed and informal atmosphere

Emphasising the synergies that exist in Asian business and the need share these to assist regional growth, Jimmy Chestnutt Chief Executive of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce said, "the real importance to growth lay in alliance with the wider business community and building firm relationships that would realise the full economic value of joined-up working. By being part of HAN gives members access to a package of services offered by the Chamber, it also exposes them to the opportunities of the Chamber’s going strategic alliances such as Hampshire Business Alliance."

Sandeep Sesodia, Relationship Manager for RBS Corporate Banking and HAN Committee Member said, "the value of HAN was the business networking that leads to wider trade but also with Chamber providing access to a raft of business expertise including that offered by RBS, which helps maintain business continuity and encourages growth whilst providing ongoing support so vital to businesses at various stages."

Ian Welland, Head of Area Development for Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, compered the event which included a lively "Q & A" session with Sandeep. Ian took the opportunity to report the regional success in gaining Government funding for the two LEPs covering Hampshire and how this will impact the region’s drive to economic sustainability. HAN is well placed to take a role in LEPs.

HAN Goes to Mela!

The multicultural event of the year, Southampton Mela 2011, organised by Art Asia, took place at Southampton’s Hoglands Park on Saturday 16 July and Hampshire Asian Network (HAN) joined forces with Southampton City Centre Management to engage with the crowds. In amongst the partygoers, it presented an opportunity to talk to Asian business entrepreneurs, companies and professionals from all different sectors.

Chamber Members Jojar Singh, Lawcomm Solicitors and Sandeep Sesodia, RBS Corporate Banking West Hants, South Wilts and Dorset, teamed up with Southampton City Centre Manager Ian Welland, with all three on hand to discuss business ideas, activities of Hampshire Asian Network and Hampshire Chamber membership. Despite the inclement weather, spirits were not dampened and the stall received a number of visitors.

Amarjit Singh, Chairman of HAN / Commercial Litigation Solicitor at Dutton Gregory LLP. said,

“The Mela is a great event to engage in a relaxed social atmosphere and I wish to say thank you to Jojar, Sandeep and Ian for their hard work and taking this initiative on. With plans for a major event being advanced, it was and is important that HAN continue the awareness.”

Ian Welland, Southampton City Centre Manager said,

“I wanted the Chamber and HAN to maximise their chance to profile alongside our City Centre offer and this certainly was achieved. Next year’s support will be even better. I wish to also thank Southampton Bargate Market (SMTC) for the use of their stalls and to Unity 101 Community Radio for their continued profiling of City Centre, Chamber and HAN throughout the event.”

Hampshire Asian Network (HAN) Launch

On 29 November 2010, over 50 Asian business leaders came together with representatives of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce for a major networking event, hosted by Kuti’s Royal Pier Thai Restaurant of Southampton, to help launch the Hampshire Asian Network (HAN).

HAN is a newly-formed business network which is an integral part of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce. HAN interprets ‘Asian’ in its broadest cultural sense and welcome businesses from all sectors, sizes and communities to become an active part of the network.

Jimmy Chestnutt, Chief Executive of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce opened the event by saying,

“Southampton has an extremely strong and very successful Asian business community and the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce want to see if there are ways we can work together more closely.”

Amarjit Singh, Commercial Solicitor of Dutton Gregory LLP and Chairman of HAN said,

“It is important that HAN is fully representative of the Asian business community and that it opens up vital links with the wider business community in Hampshire. It is a two-way street in terms of learning and sharing of business practice and with Hampshire Chamber’s support, Asian businesses have a marvellous opportunity to benefit from key business support and services, together with being linked to a tremendous range of business sectors.”

Free membership of HAN is open to Asian and Non-Asian businesses as part of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce membership.
